Jean Jérôme Destouches

Born in 1981 in Suresnes, a city on the outskirts of Paris (France), Jean Jérôme was destined – twenty-four years later and on his search for a new life – to cross that ocean which would finally take him into South America. He worked for more than two years for the French agency Gamma, and the Belgium agency Prensa Nueva and at the moment works as a freelance journalist and photoreporter for TV5 MONDE. He publishes his work in worldwide medias and magazines such as XXI (French mook), 24H01 (Belgium mook), Femmes en Résistance, Viva Magazine, La Nación Magazine, Euro Magazin (Germany) etc. His perfect knowledge of South American issues led him to work for French TV channels. In 2014, did two documentaries with Rebecca Martin (former France 24 Argentina correspondent) for Cap Amériques on France 24 channel and in 2015 for L’Effet Papillon TV program on Canal +.

This last one was a documentary about my photographic and journalistic work: “198 pounds of fame” which deals with Miss Gorditas (Misses fat in Paraguay). A Plus Size Agency which goes against tyranny of thinness in Paraguay. His reports have been published on the press worldwide: Argentina, Japan, France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium.. and in the XXI magazine and in the Argentinian magazine ViVA. Nowadays, he lives in between Argentina and France.

At the same time, he is asked to do documentary and illustration works for companies, magazines and public institutions.

Nowadays, he lives in between Argentina and France.

During his studies on communication and photo-journalism in the ARGRA school in Buenos Aires (an Association of Graphic Reporters in Argentina), he made - at the end of his first year - a photo-documentary on the lifestyle of mother prisoners - and their children - in Argentine jails. Thus, after this deeply moving experience, Jean-Jérôme decided to focus his work on themes where latin american woman is the main protagonist. Whether she is a mother prisoner raising her child behind bars or a teacher in a school lost in the argentina’s jungle, they are examples of humility, commitment, tears and hope in a continent that ,in spite of changes, keeps on suffering. Usual women with unusual lifes.

Author of his photo-documentaries he is also author of the articles. “ A photo-documentary without article is a story without voice” (Alain Genestar).
