Who’s joining our trips?

You don’t have to be a photographer to enjoy our travels. If you enjoy the pleasure of unique special and exotic places and people, and you like observing daily real life, you will like our trips.

Although we are totally focused on photographic experiences, it is no less true that all of them are based on personal contacts of greater or lesser complexity.  

There is no reason for an occasional or accidental photographer not to be part of our travels. This is the case from time to time with couples where one is more involved than the other. The only condition is that he/she has the flexibility to understand that the program, the rhythm, and the organization are oriented to photography. With the timing and, sometimes,  obsession that this implies.  

Who joins the tour?

Photographers and travelers of all ages and levels and origins come with us. We do not have a set age limit.  Typically the age range is from age 40 to 75. This is fairly typical, but older and younger amateurs often join in. Sometimes the majority of participants are women and other times men. Mostly all English speakers from U.S, Australia, United Kingdom, Singapore, New Zealand.  

Photography lovers, amateurs, very advanced amateurs.  Some of them only use their cameras on vacation and in automatic mode, others with a profound knowledge of the photographic technique and the most advanced equipment. From time to time, we even have professional photographers joining our expeditions.

What do we see and visit?

The days are planned, but the script is not always followed to the letter. It’s as well about spontaneous photography in handpicked locations in order to maximize the opportunities.

Most of the time we visit unique locations that are not typically included in regular tours. Non-photographers do as well appreciate the beauty and cultural significance of these locations and learn about their history and significance. Additionally, our trips offer continuous opportunities to meet and interact with locals and learn about their way of life, which is a valuable cultural experience for anyone.

Our photo tours involve extensive research to ensure that the group reaches very special locations and, getting to know “real” people at the optimal times and locations for photography. We many times enjoy privileged access and private experiences that are not offered on non-photographic tours.

Describe a typical day

We might find ourselves in a shipyard early in the morning for a few hours, photographing people as they work on immense wooden ships, then return to our hotel to enjoy a cup of tea while we admire a lonely beach and talk about the work we have just done.

A short while later we make our way to a temple and its surrounding villages keeping ourselves busy into the afternoon documenting a wedding or celebration.  That night we could be enjoying tribal music in a camp, or reviewing our work on our computers.

It’s also about planned photo sessions with very special “models”. It could be from a Maharadja in a Palace to a Voodoo priest in his temple. A simple worker on a shipyard or a camel herder in the desert.

The following day we could go walking in a nearby city through a vast open-air laundry, or through slums where another unimaginable life is lived. Or, have tea in a quiet moment in Varanasi, then go strolling through the Ghats. Whether it is finding what lies beyond the kiosks down the backstreets of a city, or slowly crossing a river, to the side where no one ever goes, to observe the hustle and bustle of the city and tourists.
