Receiving over 4,300 entries from 120 countries around the world, the 2021 edition of the PX3 competition proved to be another outstanding photographic event, displaying a vast and varied talent pool and extraordinary perception from talented photographers of all skill levels.

Winning entries were awarded either a gold, silver, or bronze award, and many other brilliant submissions were awarded Honorable Mentions.

The Art of Disappearing tries to bring awareness of the languid evanescence of the Arbore tribe in Ethiopia where their last 2,300 members are currently living. The modernization of the roads and the easier access of visitors is changing their way of life.

The series presented is a small part of a larger on-going work where the artist tries to reveal to the viewer the underlying threat that the Arbores are facing while they are adapting to this new situation.

The text on the images is there to portray the conflicting points of view of the visitors and the locals.

If we have to place this in a genre, I find that the term docu-fiction applies more to the work as a whole.

My goal is to delve into the other side of the mirror, to try to understand what it reflects and how we are interpreted by “the other” when he switches from being observed to being an observer.
